When it comes to caramel Popcorn, I came late to the party. VERY LATE to the party! I had never tasted a caramel popcorn until I visited my cousin in Singapore about 3 years ago.
When we met, He had brought a pack of something called Garret’s Popcorn Caramel and Macadamia popcorn. Initially I thought the combination was a bit odd. Nevertheless, I was intrigued.
I tried my first handful of popcorn and this is what I experienced:
As I took my first mouthful of caramel popcorn goodness, I can only describe it like this, it was as if eating several tiny pieces of dynamite that exploded in my mouth every time I chewed. It was like eating the perfect crispy, crunch of layered caramel covered popcorn. Occasionally, you would bite on a more solid macadamia nut which helped to balance the sweetness a bit. It was like a burst of caramel that was overwhelming my taste buds, in a good way of course!
I must have more!
Why have I never tried this before?
I’ve been missing out for years!
I was obsessed!
So, my dear cake lover, I had to put an end to this suffering of being deprived of caramel popcorn. I called on my kitchen team to put together a recipe to make the ultimate caramel popcorn cake.
After a few months of trial and error, we did it! My caramel popcorn obsession was now turned into a cake reality!
Together with our talented cake artist. we created what is now known as “The Popcorn Caramello”.
The cake is made from a soft vanilla sponge that's layered with salted caramel buttercream and nougatine, which is our own special blend of almonds, caramel and sugar to give it that crunch reminiscent of popcorn. On top of the cake is a caramel drip that oozes along the sides of the cake. Two ice cream wafer cones sit crossed on top of each other, each brushed with edible gold luster dust, to give it a little bit of sheen and sparkle.
Caramel Popcorn is overflowing onto the sides of the cake, to give it a unique and memorable look.
This is a gift you give if you want to impress your friends and family.

PS: Does anyone know if Garrets Popcorn is coming to Indonesia?
